Sapa is a text game about one life in Nigeria. You live it one year at a time.

    One year goes by. The life log tells you what it did to you.

  2. Answer what life brings

    Sometimes life stops and asks. It is project defence day. Do you defend with confidence, rehearse with a friend, or submit and pray?

Age 14 End of term report

Dad reads the report twice, removes his glasses, cleans them, reads it again.

There are 23 career ladders. Each rung asks for something first, like an age or some fame. Apply when the table is in your favour.

Age 16 Pressure at home

Pressure is how diamonds are formed. You are not a diamond.

The Work screen with the Music ladder. The rungs go from Street freestyle up to Label boss. A yellow mark says You are here beside the rung Star, which pays 455 million naira a year.

Family will call.

When you start to earn, relatives call and ask for money. Let it ring, say you have none, send half or send everything.

You can marry and raise children too. The People screen shows how close each of them is to you.

Age 25 The roof is crying

Mum: 'The rain is coming and the roof has started to cry.'

The People screen: Mum and Dad, two brothers, a wife and three children. Each person has a closeness number and a green bar.
An incoming call from Mum. She says the roof has started to cry and that zinc and a carpenter cost 76,000 naira. The four answers are: Let it ring, Say you have none, Send half, Send everything.

How will your story end?

One day the life ends. A burial programme tells your life back to you: the ladders you climbed, the house you built, the people you left behind.

Each life ends with one ribbon. There are 50 to collect.

Age 73 Celebration of life

Joseph died at home, shouting at a referee on TV.

The burial programme of Chief Patron Joseph Ogbonna, 2026 to 2099, aged 73. It tells his careers, his house, his five children and how he died. Below it are the buttons Share and Start a new life.

About money

On iPhone there is one optional purchase, called Odogwu. It adds a custom start, three more save slots and a frame for the share card. It gives no advantage in a challenge.

What "sapa" means

It is Nigerian slang for hard times with no money. In the game, a year in sapa is a year when your money does not cover your costs.
